Following the recent announcement of industrial action from the University & College Union (UCU) we wanted to reassure you that the university will remain open and operational during this period.
UCU have announced plans for action short of a strike (ASOS) and a marking and assessment boycott (MAB), from Wednesday 20 May. They have also confirmed their intent to take discontinuous strike action on Friday 22 May.
Most students will be following exam timetables from Monday 18 May and you should assume that all examinations will go ahead as planned, unless you receive specific instructions otherwise, including on Friday 22 May. it is important that you continue to submit your work and attend exams as normal during this period.
A small number of students will have teaching and, as with examinations, you should assume that any teaching sessions scheduled for Friday 22 May will go ahead as planned unless notified otherwise.
Please do continue to submit work and attend exams as normal during this period.
If any of your teaching sessions are disrupted as a result of industrial action, you can notify us using the form below.
Notification of disruption to teaching
In the event that there is disruption to your teaching or assessment activity, we do have clear procedures and support in place to minimise disruption and to help mitigate the impact of a marking and assessment boycott. We therefore do not expect any marking and assessment boycott activity to impact your ability to progress onto the next stage of your programme or to graduate this summer. Graduation ceremonies are due to go ahead as planned. We will continue to share more information and updates throughout the industrial action period.
If you have concerns and would like to speak to a member of our Support and Wellbeing Team, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
